3 weeks on...

I've just finished my third week at Brother International and so far so good. It's been hectic but the days go faster. I'm getting to know a lot more people now and I don't feel like a fish out of water.

New girl on the block

I started my new job today at Brother International and it was a good day. The people are very nice and I started on the right day because they had their monthly bbq. I'll be doing similar tasks to what I was doing at Laser. There are a lot of people so it's going to take a while to remember names.

Birthday Girl

What a wonderful start to the day! This morning at the breakfast table there were presents at my spot. Tim gave me book 2 & 3 of the Soldier Son trilogy by Robin Hobbs. There was also a case for my bible in my favourite colour. Tonight we had dinner with my family at King Crab (Chinese) in Carlingford Village and there was so much food!

Let the celebrations begin!

It's my birthday in a couple of days and the celebrations have already begun. Last night Tim took me out to dinner at Il Vicolo which is the restaurant where we had dinner the night he proposed to me last year. The food was excellent! I had scampi with mango & asparagus risotto covered with a butter sauce. Tim also gave me my first present - a beautiful metallic purple beaded necklace to match the bracelet that Belinda gave me last Christmas. After dinner we went to Thornton Park in Balmain, where Tim proposed last year.

What a week!!

I received some bad news on the 2nd September - my position was being made redundant and I finish up with LASER Corporation on the 18th. I just couldn't stop crying that night. There's been a downturn in the business so they've had to cut staff. It was such a shock! A collegue was also made redundant the day before and no one knew until an email was sent out and he came around to say goodbye.

The last few days I really saw God's grace and blessings at work. On Monday I looked on http://www.seek.com.au/ and found a sales administrator position which is similar to what I'm doing now so I called up the advertising recruitment agency and had an interview with the recruitment consultant Tuesday morning and later that day received a phone call saying the company was keen to see me. So the next morning I had the interview which went well and I had no sooner arrived back at work (I hadn't even finished parking yet) when I received a phone call offering me the job!! God is sooo amazing!! In just over a week I've been made redundant, found a job that is similar & close to home and offered the job on the same day I went for the interview.

Weekend in the city

After a bad week, it was good to go away overnight even though it was just to the city. Last night Tim and I went and saw the musical Phantom of the Opera at the Lyric Theatre in Star City and we both really enjoyed it. We stayed in the Star City hotel (sooo convenient!) and it was one of the best weekends I've had in a while. A trip to the Lindt cafè and a walk around Darling Harbour capped off our weekend in the city.

LASER Corp. team building weekend away

It was hard being away from Tim most of the weekend but I managed thanks to the great invention of the mobile phone.

The LASER Corp. team building weekend away was interesting. I haven’t worked for a company that’s had a team building weekend away and no one I know has ever been to one. We arrived at the farm round 11am and after the welcome we had morning tea (scones, coffee & tea) and then kicked off with our team presentations. All the presentations were completed by 3pm and shortly after we were taken to another part of the farm where we had damper, toasted marshmallows and billy tea. Dinner was steak, mash potatoes and vegetables followed by bush dancing. There was also a bit of excitement during the night when an old style air conditioner/heater unit caught fire and set off the smoke alarm in the room that Dina & Sabrina were in. Carla and I were the only other ladies that heard the alarm and went to investigate. Lucky the small fire was put out before it could do much damage.

We had been allocated to mixed departmental teams before the conference for Sunday’s activities with my team calling ourselves the Mighty Ducks. Our first activity for the Sunday morning was visiting the animals, feeding some of them and milking a cow. Next we did some whip cracking and boomerang throwing and then we moved on to another field where we did tug-of-war and archery. I was the only person in my team to score in archery. The conference concluded with a BBQ lunch of steak & sausages, potato wedges and salads.

The weekend was a little better than what I thought it would be but I was still very glad to get home to Tim. I was also glad I got home in time for a bit of a rest before going to church music practice.

My first blog entry...

Wow my first blog entry!!! I'm the techie in the family and it's my husband who starts the blog :D. Who'd have thought eh?

I'll be off to a work team building weekend away this weekend and I am sooooo not looking forward to it. I love spending my non work time with my husband and this will be the first time I'll be away from him since we've been married. We'll be staying at Mowbray Park Farmstay in Picton and it looks ok from their website http://www.farmstayholidays.com.au. Each team has been given objectives for the year and we have to present these objectives in an entertaining way on the weekend. I'm going to miss my husband the whole weekend :(...

First entry

I never thought I would have a blog - but I guess you should never say never. Am at home today, having almost completely lost my voice. Memo to self, must look at other people's blogs to see how they fill up the space!
